At Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha, our kindergarten students explored South Korea as part of our July country study. The goal was to help children learn about another culture through hands-on experiences, arts, crafts, music, and food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning About the South Korean Flag\/\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u56fd\u65d7\u3092\u5b66\u3076<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We began by introducing the South Korean flag to the class. Our K3 students immediately recognized the country since they had a classmate from South Korea. Together, the children observed the flag carefully and identified four colors\u2014red, blue, black, and white. They also noticed shapes, describing the flag as a rectangle with a circle in the middle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6700\u521d\u306b\u30af\u30e9\u30b9\u3067\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u56fd\u65d7\u3092\u7d39\u4ecb\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002K3\u306e\u5b50\u3069\u3082\u305f\u3061\u306f\u30af\u30e9\u30b9\u306b\u97d3\u56fd\u51fa\u8eab\u306e\u304a\u53cb\u3060\u3061\u304c\u3044\u305f\u306e\u3067\u3001\u3059\u3050\u306b\u56fd\u3092\u8a8d\u8b58\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u304c\u3067\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u5b50\u3069\u3082\u305f\u3061\u306f\u56fd\u65d7\u3092\u3088\u304f\u89b3\u5bdf\u3057\u3001\u8d64\u3001\u9752\u3001\u9ed2\u3001\u767d\u306e4\u3064\u306e\u8272\u304c\u3042\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306b\u6c17\u3065\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u307e\u305f\u3001\u9577\u65b9\u5f62\u3068\u5186\u306e\u5f62\u304c\u4f7f\u308f\u308c\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3082\u8a71\u3057\u5408\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To build connections, we compared the South Korean flag with the Japanese flag, noting that both flags include circles. The children then enjoyed coloring their own version of the South Korean flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring South Korean Culture\/\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u6587\u5316\u3092\u63a2\u308b<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The following day, we watched an educational video about South Korea to learn more about its culture, food, clothing, and music. Since both students and teachers in our class enjoy K-pop, we celebrated with a dance party using popular K-pop songs. This made learning about South Korea\u2019s modern culture exciting and interactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6b21\u306e\u65e5\u306b\u306f\u3001\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u6587\u5316\u3084\u98df\u3079\u7269\u3001\u8863\u88c5\u3001\u97f3\u697d\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u5b66\u3076\u305f\u3081\u306b\u6620\u50cf\u3092\u898b\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u30af\u30e9\u30b9\u306e\u5b50\u3069\u3082\u305f\u3061\u3082\u5148\u751f\u305f\u3061\u3082K-pop\u304c\u5927\u597d\u304d\u306a\u306e\u3067\u3001\u4eba\u6c17\u306eK-pop\u30bd\u30f3\u30b0\u3067\u30c0\u30f3\u30b9\u30d1\u30fc\u30c6\u30a3\u30fc\u3092\u958b\u304d\u3001\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u73fe\u4ee3\u6587\u5316\u3092\u697d\u3057\u304f\u4f53\u9a13\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional Clothing: Hanbok\/\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u4f1d\u7d71\u8863\u88c5\uff1a\u30cf\u30f3\u30dc\u30af<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We then turned our focus to traditional clothing. Students noticed how South Korean traditional attire, the Hanbok, is different from Japanese clothing such as Yukata, Kimono, and Jinbei. After discussing these differences, the children first colored pictures of Hanbok and later created their own Hanbok designs during craft time. This activity allowed them to experience cultural expression through art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discovering Korean Food\/\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u98df\u3079\u7269\u3092\u5b66\u3076<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our next activity introduced South Korean cuisine. When asked if they had ever tried Korean food, one of our K3 students excitedly mentioned that there is a Korean restaurant in Lalaport. Together, we explored different dishes by watching videos about Kimchi and Bibimbap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After discussing the ingredients used in Bibimbap, the children created their own version of the dish during craft time, choosing ingredients they liked to include. This activity gave them a chance to understand food culture while enjoying creative expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building Cultural Awareness and International Mindedness\/\u7570\u6587\u5316\u7406\u89e3\u3068\u56fd\u969b\u7684\u306a\u5fc3\u3092\u80b2\u3066\u308b<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Through this country study on South Korea, our students not only learned about national symbols, cultural traditions, music, clothing, and food, but also developed a broader perspective of the world. By comparing flags, noticing differences in traditional clothing, enjoying global music, and exploring food culture, children practiced\u00a0international mindedness<\/strong>\u2014the ability to appreciate and respect cultures beyond their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
