October at Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha was filled with creativity, excitement, and hands-on learning as our kindergarten students explored the fun and imaginative world of Halloween crafts. Through a series of engaging activities, children expressed themselves artistically, developed fine motor skills, and enhanced their understanding of shapes, colors, and materials \u2014 all while enjoying the Halloween spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discovering Halloween Monsters Through Inquiry and Art<\/strong>\/ \u63a2\u7a76\u3068\u30a2\u30fc\u30c8\u3092\u901a\u3057\u3066\u30cf\u30ed\u30a6\u30a3\u30f3\u306e\u30e2\u30f3\u30b9\u30bf\u30fc\u3092\u5b66\u3076<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To begin our Halloween exploration, we introduced the children to various Halloween monsters. When shown a picture of an ogre, one K3 student excitedly said, \u201cShrek is an ogre!\u201d To help everyone understand, we watched a short video about Shrek and discussed other well-known monsters such as vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein, zombies, and mummies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This activity encouraged inquiry-based learning, as students compared different creatures and shared what they found interesting about each one. They developed language skills by describing what made each monster scary, funny, or special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, the children created their own Halloween monsters using a variety of materials. They began by coloring monster outlines and then decorated them with origami paper, feathers, stickers, and colored tape. Each creation was unique \u2014 some monsters had multiple heads, hands, or eyes, while others resembled skeletons. This activity promoted imagination, decision-making, and confidence in self-expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students were so inspired that they continued drawing even more monsters, experimenting with new ideas and designs. Their creativity truly shone through every piece of artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEM-Inspired Halloween Building Stations<\/strong>\/ STEM\u3092\u53d6\u308a\u5165\u308c\u305f\u30cf\u30ed\u30a6\u30a3\u30f3\u5efa\u7bc9\u30b9\u30c6\u30fc\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To connect creativity with construction and problem-solving, we organized two Halloween-themed building stations. At the first station, children used rocks and sand to design spooky settings, while at the second, they used blocks and Wammy materials to build Halloween-themed creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spider Web Craft: Combining Creativity and Math<\/strong>\/ \u30af\u30e2\u306e\u5de3\u30af\u30e9\u30d5\u30c8\uff1a\u5275\u9020\u529b\u3068\u7b97\u6570\u3092\u7d44\u307f\u5408\u308f\u305b\u308b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the children worked on a spider web craft, which combined art, creativity, and early mathematics. They cut newspapers and flyers into strips, covered circular shapes, and used yarn to create spider webs. In the afternoon, they completed the project by making spiders from flyers, construction paper, and tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This hands-on activity helped develop fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing, and threading. To integrate math, the children counted the number of newspaper strips they cut, saying things like, \u201cI have cut five, so I need three more!\u201d This natural combination of art and numeracy supported both cognitive and creative growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
