After months of hard work, Beyondia and Rugby School Japan finally had their parents tour. It was a long time in the works and everything went so well. 

The event started early on a cold, December morning. Several of our parents and students met with some of the teachers outside the Rugby School Japan gates, ready to get a glimpse at what the school had to offer. Once inside, everyone headed to the The Oval to begin. The Rugby School staff kindly provided some nice snacks and drinks for their guests. Everyone sat down and were given a quick introduction to the school and its ethos. The parents were very interested to hear all about the different options available at the school and what goals drive it.

数ヶ月にわたり準備を進めてきたBeyondiaとRugby School Japanは、このたび保護者向けの学校見学会を開催しました。
イベントは、12月の冷え込む朝早くに始まりました。Beyondiaの保護者とスクール生がRugby School Japanの前で待ち合わせ、校内での見学に期待をふくらませていました。校内に入ると、まずはThe Ovalへ。スタッフの皆さまが軽食や飲み物をご用意くださり、温かく迎えてくださいました。着席後は、学校の理念や教育方針について簡単なご紹介があり、保護者の皆さまは、用意されているさまざまな学びの選択肢や、学校が目指す姿について熱心に耳を傾けていました。 

After the introduction, it was time for the tour to begin. We started the tour by having a look at the dormitories. Rugby School Japan is a boarding and day school that hosts both boarders and non-boarders. The boarding houses are places for both types of students to come, interact with their peers, do homework, and build a sense of community. The ground floor hosts a large, open living room with comfortable couches, tables, and activities for the students to enjoy. The upper floors are where the bedrooms and showering facilities are. The parents were informed that the bedrooms have desks for  the non-boarders to use as they want the boarding house to feel unified. Our parents were clearly impressed with what was on offer.

説明のあとは、いよいよ校内ツアーへ。最初に案内していただいたのは寮でした。Rugby School Japanは全寮制と通学制の両方を備え、寮生・通学生の双方が在籍しています。寮は生活の場であると同時に、生徒たちが集まって交流したり、宿題に取り組んだりしながら、コミュニティを育んでいく拠点にもなっています。1階には広々とした共用スペースがあり、快適なソファやテーブルのほか、生徒が楽しめるアクティビティも用意されていました。上階には寝室やシャワー設備があります。また、通学生にも気軽に利用してほしいという考えから、各部屋には机が設置されているとの説明もありました。寮全体で一体感を大切にしている様子が伝わり、保護者の皆さまもその環境に感銘を受けているようでした。

We were then shown some of the learning facilities around the school. Rugby School Japan hosts many musical rooms for solo or group sessions, a large drama stage where the students get to create their productions from planning to execution, a large gymnasium with equipment for many different sports, a well-stocked library, and an indoor swimming pool. Our parents and students were blown away by all that was on offer. When arriving at the dining hall, there were many comments about how similar it was to Hogwarts.

続いて、校内の学習施設も見学しました。個人練習にもグループにも対応できる音楽室が複数あるほか、生徒が企画から本番まで主体的につくり上げることができるドラマステージ、さまざまな競技に対応した設備の整った体育館、蔵書の充実した図書館、そして屋内プールまで備わっています。保護者・生徒の皆さまからは驚きの声が上がり、充実ぶりに圧倒されていました。食堂に着いたときには、「まるでホグワーツみたい！」という声も多く聞かれました。

From there, it was time to see some of the classrooms. We were given a tour around some of the science labs, the debate chamber, the art and design rooms, and the sport science classrooms. The school had so much to offer that there simply wasn’t enough time to see it all in a single tour. Regardless, everyone was very impressed and thought it would be an amazing place to study. Sadly, they do not accept mature students.

その後はいくつかの教室へ。理科実験室、ディベート用の部屋、美術・デザイン室、スポーツサイエンスの教室などをご案内いただきました。学校には見どころが多く、1回のツアーですべてを回りきれないほど。それでも参加者の皆さんは大変満足され、「ここで学べたら素晴らしいだろう」と感じる環境でした。なお、残念ながら大人の受け入れは行っていないとのことでした・・・。

We ended the tour back in the The Oval for some tea, snacks, and a Q&A session. Overall, it was an amazing experience for everyone involved and some of the parents will have to make some choices about where best to send their kids. 

We want to thank the Rugby School Japan staff for allowing us to show some of our Beyondia families around and we really look forward to future collaborations. 

ツアーの締めくくりは、再びThe Ovalに戻ってのティータイムとQ&A。紅茶や軽食をいただきながら、気になる点を直接質問できる時間となりました。全体を通して、参加者全員にとって学びの多い体験となり、保護者の中には、お子さまの進学先について改めて真剣に考えるきっかけになった方もいらっしゃったと思います。

最後に、Beyondiaのご家族をご案内する機会を快く設けてくださったRugby School Japanのスタッフの皆さまに、心より感謝申し上げます。今後のさらなる連携も、私たちは楽しみにしています。
