Experiencing Japanese Traditions Through Kimono | 着物を通して日本の伝統文化を体験
At Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha, we held our annual Kimono Cultural Day in collaboration with Happily Studio.
Now in its third year, this special event gives children the opportunity to experience traditional Japanese clothing firsthand.
Through seeing, touching, and wearing kimono, children can discover Japanese traditions in a fun and meaningful way.
Beyondia International School Kashiwanohaでは、今年もHappily Studio様のご協力のもと、着物文化体験を実施しました。
今年で3年目を迎えるこのイベントは、子どもたちが日本の伝統衣装に実際に触れ、着物を身につける特別な機会となっています。
見る、触れる、着てみるという実体験を通して、日本の文化や伝統に楽しく親しむことを大切にしています。
Celebrating Children’s Growth | 子どもたちの成長を感じる瞬間
One of the most heartwarming moments of this year’s event was seeing how much the children had grown.
Some children who felt nervous or even cried while getting dressed last year were able to put on their kimono confidently this time.
Seeing these changes reminded us how much children can grow in just one year.
Annual events like this are not only opportunities to create special memories but also wonderful moments to recognize and celebrate each child’s development.
今回のイベントでは、子どもたちの一年間の成長を感じる嬉しい場面もありました。
昨年は着替える際に泣いてしまったり、少し不安そうにしていた子どもたちも、今年は自信を持って着物に袖を通す姿が見られました。
一年という時間の中で、心も身体も大きく成長した子どもたち。
毎年同じイベントを開催することで、一人ひとりの成長を感じられることも、この活動の魅力の一つです。
Learning Through Curiosity and Discovery | 好奇心と発見から広がる学び
The children were fascinated by the different parts of traditional Japanese clothing, including kimono, tabi socks, and hakama.
When one child saw a hakama, they curiously asked, “Is this a skirt?”
For young children, even the smallest discoveries can spark new questions and interests.
Rather than simply learning about Japanese clothing through pictures or books, children had the chance to explore these traditional items through firsthand experience.
We hope these moments of curiosity will encourage them to develop a deeper interest in Japanese culture.
子どもたちは着物だけでなく、足袋や袴など、普段あまり目にすることのない伝統衣装にも興味津々でした。
袴を見て「これ、スカート？」と不思議そうに質問する子もいました。
子どもたちにとって、初めて見るものや触れるものは、新しい発見や疑問につながります。
写真や絵本で知るだけでなく、実際に見て、触れて、身につけることで生まれる気づき。
こうした小さな発見が、日本の伝統文化への興味を広げるきっかけになればと考えています。
Extending Learning Through Art and Reflection | 着物のデザインと振り返りで学びを深める
The learning continued even after Kimono Cultural Day!
Back in their classrooms, the children took part in follow-up activities, including designing their own kimono and reflecting on their experiences.
Through creative activities and reflection, children had opportunities to revisit what they had seen, felt, and discovered during the event.
At Beyondia, we believe that learning does not end with a single experience. Taking time to reflect and express ideas helps children make connections and deepen their understanding.
着物文化体験の後も、子どもたちの学びは続きました。
各クラスでは、オリジナルの着物をデザインしたり、体験を振り返るリフレクション（振り返り活動）を行いました。
実際に着物を着た経験をもとに、自分なりのデザインで表現したり、体験を通して感じたことや発見したことを振り返ったりすることで、学びをさらに広げていきます。
Beyondiaでは、イベントを単なる一日の体験で終わらせるのではなく、その経験を次の学びにつなげることも大切にしています。
Valuing Japanese Culture in an International Environment | 国際的な環境の中で日本文化も大切に
At Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha, we value not only learning English and exploring different cultures but also experiencing Japanese traditions and seasonal celebrations.
Growing up in an international environment offers children opportunities to encounter different languages, perspectives, and ways of life.
At the same time, we believe that discovering the traditions of the country where they live is also an important part of their early childhood education.
Through cultural experiences, creative expression, and reflection, we hope to nurture children’s curiosity, appreciation for different cultures, and joy of learning.
