At the end of the unit “How the World Works,” our class enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Tsukuba Expo Center, one of the most exciting science museums in Tsukuba, Japan. The children were very excited from early in the morning and showed great enthusiasm for exploring and learning outside the classroom.
How the World Works（世界はどのように動くのか）」ユニットの最後に、私たちのクラスは日本・つくば市にある最も魅力的な科学館の一つであるつくばエキスポセンターへ素晴らしい遠足に行きました。子どもたちは朝早くからとても楽しみにしており、教室の外で探究しながら学ぶことに大きな意欲を見せていました。
Planetarium Experience: Learning About Space / プラネタリウム体験：宇宙について学ぶ
Our first destination inside the center was the planetarium. The children were very interested to see the inside, and everyone watched and listened carefully. During the program, we learned that Jupiter and Saturn can be seen in the night sky. We also learned about different constellations and how people use stars to understand the sky. The planetarium experience was calm, engaging, and a great opportunity for the children to practice focus and listening skills.
館内で最初に訪れたのは Planetarium でした。子どもたちは中の様子に強い関心を示し、静かに座ってよく見て、よく聞くことができました。プログラムでは、Jupiter と Saturn が夜空に見えることや、さまざまな星座について学びました。また、人々がどのように星を使って空を理解しているのかも知ることができました。プラネタリウムでの体験は落ち着いた雰囲気の中で行われ、集中力や傾聴の姿勢を育む良い機会となりました。
Interactive Science Zones and Learning Through Play/インタラクティブゾーン：遊びながら学ぶ
The children enjoyed exploring the interactive science zones. They experienced five main areas:
- Ultra Challenge Zone
- Nano Challenge Zone
- Life Challenge Zone
- Environmental Challenge Zone
- Space Challenge Zone
Each zone offered hands-on learning opportunities. The children explored with curiosity and excitement, and they enjoyed learning through play, experimentation, and discovery.
子どもたちはインタラクティブなサイエンスゾーンをとても楽しみました。以下の5つのエリアを体験しました。

- ナノ・チャレンジ・ゾーン
- ライフ・チャレンジ・ゾーン
- エンバイロメンタル・チャレンジ・ゾーン

それぞれのゾーンで、実際に体験しながら学ぶ機会がありました。子どもたちは好奇心を持って積極的に取り組み、遊びや実験、発見を通して学びを深めていました。
Recycled Material Play Area/ リサイクル素材のプレイエリア
Next, we visited the first-floor play area. The children played with toys made from recycled materials such as PET bottles and cardboard. They also experimented with sound and light.
This area was especially meaningful because it reinforced our current inquiry theme of recycling and reusing materials. The children were able to see how everyday items can be reused in creative and educational ways.
次に、1階のプレイエリアを訪れました。PETボトルや段ボールなどのリサイクル素材で作られたおもちゃで遊びました。また、サウンドやライトの実験も体験しました。
このエリアは、現在取り組んでいる「リサイクル」と「リユース（再利用）」という探究テーマをより深く理解するうえで、とても意義のあるものでした。身近な素材がクリエイティブかつ教育的に再利用できることを、実際に体験することができました。
Science Zone: Light, Electricity, and Force/ サイエンスゾーン：光・電気・力
After lunch, we explored the Science Zone on the first floor. The children experienced the world of science using their bodies, including activities related to light, electricity, and force. We divided into two groups and explored the activities in turns. The children showed excellent cooperation, patience, and teamwork while waiting for their turn.
One of the most popular activities was the melody pipes. By tapping the ends of pipes of different lengths, the children discovered how different pitches are created. Some children even tried playing simple songs, including “Jingle Bells.”
ランチの後は、1階の Science Zone を体験しました。光、電気、力など、サイエンスの世界を体を使って学びました。2つのグループに分かれて順番に活動し、子どもたちは待つことや協力することも上手にできました。
特に人気だったのは melody pipes です。長さの違うパイプの端を叩くことで、音の高さが変わることを発見しました。中には「Jingle Bells」などの簡単な曲を演奏しようとする子どももいました。
Hands-On Activities: Giant Bubbles and Slime Making/ 体験活動：巨大シャボン玉とスライム作り
The children also enjoyed several hands-on experiences. They took turns entering the giant soap bubble wall and were amazed by the size and movement of the bubbles. We also tried the Tornado Generator, explored mirrors, played computer games, and visited the lighting room.
One of the highlights of the day was making slime. The children listened carefully to the instructor and followed the steps well. Everyone enjoyed touching the slime and shared that they had a lot of fun during the activity.
子どもたちはさまざまな体験活動も楽しみました。巨大なシャボン玉の壁の中に入る体験では、シャボン玉の大きさや動きに驚いていました。
そのほかにも Tornado Generator、ミラーのコーナー、コンピューターゲーム、ライトの部屋などを体験しました。
この日のハイライトの一つは、スライム作りでした。子どもたちはインストラクターの話をよく聞き、手順を守って上手に作ることができました。完成したスライムに触れながら、とても楽しそうな様子でした。
A Day Full of Learning and Great Memories/ 学びと素晴らしい思い出にあふれた一日
Overall, it was an amazing day filled with learning, fun, and meaningful experiences. The children did a fantastic job listening, sharing, cooperating, and exploring together. This field trip was a valuable opportunity to strengthen curiosity, environmental awareness, and scientific thinking. Thank you very much for your support in preparing for the trip.
