Our Journey to Spain Begins | スペインへの旅がスタート

Where should we travel next? This time, the Kinder class chose Spain.

We gathered around a map and found Spain in Europe. The children noticed that it is close to Portugal, France, and Andorra. They were also surprised to learn that people in Spain speak Spanish rather than English or Japanese.

Next, we looked at Spanish stamps and money. Spain once used the peseta, but today people use the euro. Seeing real objects made this faraway country feel a little closer to us.

次はどの国へ行ってみよう？今回、Kinderクラスが選んだ国はスペインです。

みんなで地図を囲み、ヨーロッパにあるスペインを探しました。ポルトガル、フランス、アンドラの近くにあることや、スペインでは英語や日本語ではなく、スペイン語が話されていることを知りました。

スペインの切手やお金も実際に見てみました。以前はペセタという通貨が使われていましたが、現在はユーロが使われています。本物に触れることで、遠く離れたスペインが少し身近に感じられたようです。

Tasting Spain Through Our Imagination | 食べ物から広がるスペインへの興味

Talking about food is always an exciting way to learn about another country.

We introduced Spanish dishes such as paella, gazpacho, and potato croquettes. Some foods were new to the children, while others looked familiar. They listened with curiosity as we talked about paella made with rice and seafood and gazpacho served as a cold tomato soup.

We also tried singing our familiar afternoon Goodbye Song in Spanish. The words sounded very different, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter. Even so, everyone listened carefully and gave the Spanish version a wonderful try.

他の国について知るとき、食べ物の話はいつも子どもたちの興味を引き出してくれます。

パエリア、ガスパチョ、ポテトコロッケなど、スペインのさまざまな料理を紹介しました。初めて見る料理もあれば、どこかで見たことのある料理もあり、子どもたちは興味津々でした。

いつもアフタヌーンサークルで歌っているGoodbye Songにも、スペイン語で挑戦しました。普段とはまったく違う言葉の響きに笑顔が広がりましたが、みんなよく耳を傾け、楽しみながら歌っていました。

Making Passports for Our Adventure | 手作りパスポートで出発準備

The Kinder class was especially excited to learn about La Tomatina, a Spanish festival where people throw tomatoes at one another.

The children quickly decided that they wanted to visit Spain and join the festival. But first, they needed something very important: a passport.

They wrote their names, added their signatures, and described themselves on their passport templates. Creating a signature was one of the most enjoyable parts, and each child came up with a wonderfully unique one.

Over the next few days, they added their photographs and covers. The children took great care with every detail, proudly creating passports that were truly their own.

スペインのお祭り「ラ・トマティーナ」について知ると、Kinderクラスの子どもたちは大喜び。たくさんの人がトマトを投げ合う様子を見て、「スペインへ行って参加してみたい！」という気持ちが膨らみました。

でも、スペインへ行くためには大切なものが必要です。それは、パスポートです。

子どもたちはテンプレートに自分の名前を書き、サインや自分についての情報も加えました。特にサイン作りが楽しかったようで、それぞれがユニークなサインを考えていました。

その後、写真と表紙も加えながら、少しずつ完成させました。一つひとつの部分を丁寧に仕上げ、自分だけのパスポートを嬉しそうに見せてくれました。

Experiencing La Tomatina Together | みんなでラ・トマティーナを体験

Before enjoying our own La Tomatina, we took a closer look at real tomatoes.

When the teachers cut them open, the children leaned forward to see the seeds, juice, and texture inside. We also observed a tomato plant and followed its journey from a tiny seed to the food on our plates. A familiar tomato became something new and fascinating when we looked at it carefully.

Finally, it was time for our own La Tomatina. Using the paper tomatoes they had made earlier in the week, the Kinder class gathered together for a cheerful tomato-throwing experience.

Before starting, we agreed not to throw at anyone’s face and to be gentle with our friends. Soon, paper tomatoes were flying through the air, and the classroom was filled with laughter.

Through this playful experience, the children did more than learn facts about Spain. They used their curiosity, creativity, and imagination to experience another culture together.

いよいよ園内でラ・トマティーナを楽しむ前に、まずは本物のトマトをじっくり観察しました。

先生がトマトを切ると、子どもたちは身を乗り出して、中にある種や果汁、手触りを確かめていました。トマトの苗も観察し、小さな種から育ち、食卓に届くまでの流れについて考えました。いつも見ているトマトも、じっくり観察すると新しい発見でいっぱいです。

そしてついに、Kinderクラスのラ・トマティーナが始まりました。週の初めに自分たちで作った紙のトマトを使い、みんなでトマト投げを楽しみました。

始める前に、友達の顔には投げないこと、優しく投げることをみんなで確認しました。トマトが飛び始めると、教室はたくさんの笑い声に包まれました。

今回の活動では、スペインについて知るだけでなく、子どもたちが好奇心や想像力、創造力を働かせながら、異なる国の文化を楽しく体験することができました。
