Discovering the Meaning of Tsukimi | お月見の文化に親しむ

Last month, the children celebrated Tsukimi, the traditional Japanese custom of appreciating the autumn moon.

They listened carefully to a story about a rabbit and an old man. Afterwards, they answered questions and shared what they remembered, developing their listening and communication skills while demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Communicators.

先月、子どもたちは秋の月を楽しむ日本の伝統行事「お月見」を体験しました。

うさぎとおじいさんが登場するお話を集中して聞き、その後の質問にも答えながら、覚えていることを自分の言葉で伝えました。活動を通して、聞く力やコミュニケーション力を育み、IBの学習者像である「コミュニケーションができる人」としての姿を見せてくれました。

Learning Through Tsukimi Stations | お月見のラーニングステーション

The children explored Tsukimi through a variety of learning stations.

At the Writing Station, they practised writing and tracing words related to Tsukimi, such as “moon,” “rabbit,” and “September.” At another station, they read words and drew pictures to show their meanings. They also enjoyed making words using Tsukimi vocabulary and completing a relaxing colouring activity.

子どもたちは、さまざまなラーニングステーションを通して、お月見について楽しく学びました。

ライティングステーションでは、「moon」「rabbit」「September」など、お月見に関する英単語を書いたり、なぞったりしました。また、英単語を読んで、その意味を表す絵を描く活動や、お月見に関する文字を組み合わせて単語を作る活動、塗り絵にも取り組みました。

Creating Together Through Art and Play | 遊びと制作を通した協働

In the afternoon, the children divided into groups and enjoyed ring toss, mochi making, table activities, and crafts.

They created beautiful stars and worked together to make a large moon for a special Tsukimi photo booth. By combining the moon with their handmade stars, the children completed a wonderful classroom display and celebrated their work by taking group photos together.

午後はグループに分かれ、輪投げやお餅作り、テーブルアクティビティ、制作活動を楽しみました。

子どもたちはきれいな星を作り、みんなで協力して、お月見のフォトブースに飾る大きな月も制作しました。大きな月と手作りの星を一緒に飾って素敵な作品を完成させ、最後にはみんなで記念写真を撮りました。

Connecting Culture, Language, and Creativity | 文化・英語・創造性をつなぐ学び

Through the Tsukimi celebration, the children experienced Japanese culture while developing their English vocabulary, communication skills, creativity, and ability to work with others.
