Learning Through Play | 遊びを体験しながら学ぶ

Recently, our staff participated in a B-Block workshop hosted by Jakuetsu.

The theme of the workshop was simple: to help children enjoy meaningful play, teachers must first experience the joy and value of play themselves.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of B-Block. Loved by generations of children, it continues to evolve while encouraging creativity, communication, and problem-solving.

Did you know that the name “B-Block” comes from the shape of the blocks, which resemble the letter “B”? This unique design has been loved by children for 60 years and continues to inspire creativity and imaginative play.

先日、職員がジャクエツ様主催のB-Blockワークショップに参加しました。

テーマは、「子どもたちへ遊びを伝えるためには、まず職員自身が遊び方を学び、楽しむこと」。

今年で60周年を迎えたB-Blockは、改良を重ねながら長年多くの子どもたちに親しまれているブロックです。

「B-Block」という名前は、ブロックの形がアルファベットの「B」に見えることから名付けられました。60年もの間、多くの子どもたちに親しまれ、創造力や発想力を育む遊具として愛され続けています。

Three Activities That Inspired Creativity | 創造力を育む3つのアクティビティ

During the workshop, we experienced three different activities.

The first was a portrait relay. Teachers observed a partner’s face for just five seconds before drawing one feature in another five seconds. Passing the drawing from person to person created laughter, conversation, and unique portraits.

Next came a tower-building challenge. Working in teams, we explored different ways to build the tallest structure possible using B-Block. Every team discovered that creativity and teamwork were just as important as balance.

The final activity was building a ball run using B-Block rails. Teams experimented, adjusted their designs, and solved problems together until the ball could travel through the course. Each creation reflected the personalities and ideas of its team members.

ワークショップでは、3つの遊びを体験しました。

1つ目は「似顔絵リレー」。

5秒間相手の顔を見て、5秒間で特徴を描き、次の人へリレーしていきます。少しずつ似顔絵が完成していく中で、自然と笑顔や会話が生まれました。

2つ目は「ブロック高さ比べ」。

チームごとに、どうすれば一番高く積み上げられるかを考えながら挑戦しました。アイデアを出し合い、試行錯誤を重ねる姿が印象的でした。

3つ目は、レール状のブロックを使ったボールランづくり。

ボールが最後まで転がるコースを目指し、何度も修正を繰り返しながら完成させました。コースだけでなく周りの装飾にも個性が表れ、それぞれのチームらしい作品ができあがりました。
