Summer Festival Open School｜Pre-Kinderと楽しむ夏祭り体験

Our Pre-Kinder children had a special Open School this week, welcoming their parents to join them for an afternoon inspired by the sights, sounds, and foods of a Japanese summer festival.

Preクラスでは、保護者の皆さまをお迎えして、夏祭りをテーマにした保護者参観を行いました。日本の夏祭りで親しみのある遊びや食べ物を、親子で一緒に楽しみました。

Sharing a Familiar School Day｜いつもの園生活を親子で一緒に

The afternoon began with snack time, giving parents the opportunity to experience a familiar part of their children’s daily routine. The children enjoyed their snack alongside their parents before moving on to the afternoon activities.

おやつの時間からスタートし、保護者の皆さまには、子どもたちが普段過ごしている園生活の一場面を一緒に体験していただきました。いつものおやつの時間を親子で過ごすことで、子どもたちも安心した様子で午後の活動へと進むことができました。

After snack time, we gathered in our circle area and sang our familiar Hello Song. We talked about summer festivals and the different foods and activities we might find there. The children then enjoyed singing along to our Fireworks Song.

おやつの後は、サークルタイム。いつものHello Songを歌い、夏祭りにはどんな食べ物や遊びがあるのかをみんなで話しました。その後は、子どもたちにもおなじみのFireworks Songを歌い、夏祭りの雰囲気を楽しみました。

Exploring Summer Festival Activities｜夏祭りの遊びを楽しもう

After our circle time, the children and parents explored three different activity stations.

Yakisoba was the first station. The children used tweezers to pick up pieces of brown yarn and place them into their boxes as noodles. They then tore origami paper into small pieces to use as vegetable toppings. Once their yakisoba was finished, some children enjoyed pretending to eat their creations together with their parents.

サークルタイムの後は、3つのコーナーに分かれて、夏祭りをテーマにした活動を楽しみました。

まずは焼きそば作り。子どもたちはトングを使って茶色の毛糸をつまみ、箱の中に入れて麺に見立てました。その上に、折り紙をちぎって野菜のトッピングを作りました。完成した焼きそばを使って、保護者の方と一緒に「いただきます」とごっこ遊びを楽しむ姿も見られました。

At the shaved ice station, the children used an ice painting technique to decorate their shaved ice cutouts. They enjoyed creating their own colorful treats while exploring paint in a different way.

かき氷コーナーでは、アイスペインティングの技法を使って、かき氷の台紙を彩りました。色を使いながら、それぞれが自分だけのかき氷を作ることを楽しみました。

The final station featured kinetic sand and food-shaped molds. The children filled and pressed the molds to make different pretend foods while enjoying the soft, hands-on sensory experience.

最後のコーナーでは、キネティックサンドと食べ物の型を使って遊びました。型に砂を詰めたり、押したりしながら、さまざまな食べ物の形を作りました。手で触れながら形の変化を楽しむ、感触遊びの時間にもなりました。

Learning Through Play｜遊びの中で広がる学び

Although the activities were designed to be fun and familiar, each one also provided opportunities for children to develop important skills.

Using tweezers during the yakisoba activity encouraged careful hand movements and fine motor control, while tearing paper gave children another opportunity to use their fingers in different ways. Painting and kinetic sand play allowed them to explore materials through touch and movement while expressing their own ideas.

楽しい夏祭りの活動の中には、子どもたちの成長につながるさまざまな学びも含まれています。

焼きそば作りでは、トングを使って毛糸をつまむことで、手や指を細かく動かす経験につながりました。折り紙をちぎる活動でも、指先を使って素材に触れる経験を楽しみました。ペインティングやキネティックサンドでは、素材の感触や形の変化を楽しみながら、自分なりに表現することができました。

The activities also helped the children become more familiar with the foods and experiences they may encounter during a real Japanese summer festival. By learning through songs, pretend play, crafts, and sensory activities, the children could explore the theme in an age-appropriate and enjoyable way.

また、焼きそばやかき氷など、実際の夏祭りで出会う食べ物に触れることで、日本の夏祭りへの興味や親しみを深める機会にもなりました。歌やごっこ遊び、制作、感触遊びなどを通して、子どもたちは楽しみながら夏祭りの文化に触れました。

Connecting Home and School｜家庭と園をつなぐオープンスクール

Throughout the afternoon, the classroom was filled with warm conversations, big smiles, and proud faces. It was wonderful to see the children showing their parents what they could do and sharing familiar experiences from their school life.

オープンスクールの間、教室には親子の温かな会話やたくさんの笑顔、そして嬉しそうな表情が広がっていました。子どもたちが普段園で楽しんでいることを保護者の方に見てもらい、一緒に楽しむ姿がとても印象的でした。

Open School is also an important opportunity to connect children’s experiences at home and at school. When parents join familiar school activities, children can share their everyday experiences with their families while feeling the comfort of having someone important to them nearby.

オープンスクールは、子どもたちの「家庭」と「園」での経験をつなぐ大切な機会でもあります。保護者の方が普段の活動に参加することで、子どもたちは自分の園生活を家族と共有しながら、安心感を持って活動することができます。

At the same time, it gives parents a chance to see how their children communicate, explore, participate, and enjoy learning in their everyday school environment.

保護者の皆さまにとっても、子どもたちが園でどのように過ごし、どのように活動に参加したり、先生や友だちと関わったりしているのかを実際に見ていただける機会となります。

We were very happy to share such a warm afternoon with our Pre-Kinder families and to see the children enjoying their summer festival experience together with their parents.

Preクラスの子どもたちと保護者の皆さまと一緒に、温かく楽しい夏祭りの時間を過ごすことができました。親子で同じ体験を楽しむ中で、子どもたちの成長や園での姿を感じていただける素敵な時間となりました。
